The Waveshare JetRacer is not a toy. It's a full AI robotics platform built around the Jetson Nano, designed for people who want to do real deep learning work in a physical vehicle — autonomous line following, neural network training, and self-driving experiments that run on actual GPU hardware, not simulation.
The chassis is Ackerman-steered aluminium alloy with dual gearmotor rear-wheel drive — the same steering geometry cars use, which makes the behaviour transferable to real-world driving models. The 160-degree wide-angle 8MP camera feeds the vision pipeline. And the JetRacer and DonkeyCar libraries mean you're not starting from scratch: there's a proven framework for training and deploying models directly to the car.
This is competition-level hardware. It requires genuine programming experience and familiarity with Linux, Python, and neural network training. If you're earlier in the learning curve, Waveshare's lower-tier kits are a better starting point.
Note: 18650 batteries (x3) are not included. You'll need three 18650 cells and a 12.6V series configuration to power the system.
