On these vehicles, the electronic steering lock (ESCL) is a known failure point — when it fails, the vehicle can display a steering lock warning and refuse to start. The emulator bypasses the ESCL system by simulating the expected signal to the BCM, allowing the vehicle to start normally without requiring replacement of the original ESCL unit.
